What Is Landfill?

What Is Landfill?

Landfill is a much debated method of disposing of waste, in which the unwanted items are buried, in excavated pits - also known as "landfill sites".

It is the oldest and most common form of waste disposal, and has been used for the disposal of unwanted clothing for hundreds of years,

The problem is twofold. Firstly, is the time it takes for clothing to organically decay in landfill sites. For example, it takes about 200 years, for a Polyester Jumper to break down, and about 1,000 years, for a pair of shoes. Secondly, is the fact that Fast Fashion has created a culture of throwing away perfectly good items of clothing. This means there is thousands of tonnes of good clothing slowly degrading in landfill sites around the world.

By buying Preworn, you help save thousands of perfectly good items of clothing from landfill sites, across the UK, and wider world. And help us in our research into Textile waste disposal and recycling, to maximize the value of unwanted clothing in the recycling process, and improve the organic degradation of what is truly waste.
