What Is Tweed?

What Is Tweed?

Tweed is probably the rarest, and most unique material in clothing, immediately identifiable, by it's cross-stitch patterns, and favoured in the second-hand market, due to its history, and it's value in repurposing and reusing.

It is a rough, woollen fabric, with most Tweeds being made entirely of wool, although in recent years, blends of wool and cotton, wool and rayon, and wool and man-made fibres, have been used.

It is usually woven with a plain weave, twill, or herringbone structure. Originates from the 1830's, and forms a staple of traditional English, Irish, Scottish, And Welsh outerwear.
